Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's rugby team shut down the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday afternoon on Alumni Field. James Leveridge (Oakville, Ont.) scored 11 converts, a try and a penalty goal in the win.
From the get-go the Marauders dominated the entire match. Within the first 10 minutes, McMaster would go up 17-0 with a penalty goal from Leveridge, a try from Trevor Anderson and another from Chris Gordon (Pickering, Ont.). Leveridge's two converts would complete the 17.
It wouldn't stop there. Deep in Toronto's end, Taylor Wilenski (Pickering, Ont.) would find his way through the Blues' defence for his first try of the game. Before the half was up, Davor Stojanov and Alexander Kuntz would get tries of their own. Leveridge would continue to be perfect for converts, giving McMaster a 38-0 lead going into the second 40 minutes.
In the second half, Gordon would start off the scoring for the Marauders. Within the next ten minutes, Wilenski would score his second and third tries of the game and once again, Leveridge would connect for each convert. Later, Connor Patterson (Barrie, Ont.) would score his first try of the game and Leveridge would follow that up with a convert, a try and another convert. Two more tries, from Justin Ramirez and David Van Buren would conclude the scoring for the Marauders and Leveridge wouldn't miss a convert until his last of the game.
The final score would read an astounding 85-0. McMaster improves to 4-2 with their fourth win in a row.
McMaster travels to Waterloo to take on the Warriors on Saturday at 1pm.
