Hamilton, Ont. - The McMaster men's water polo team was in action at the University of Toronto to open up the 2011 OUA regular season.
In their first match on Saturday, the Marauders came out on top over K-W. Both teams scored two goals a piece in the first. Marauders Cale Carlson and Jack Park were the first to score for McMaster. In the second, the Marauders would hold K-W to just one goal and Tristan Colterjohn and J. Tong would connect for McMaster to go ahead 4-3. In the third, Park would score a whopping three goals for McMaster, while K-W scored two. Going into the fourth, the Marauders would score two more for a total of nine thanks to Tong and Park. The final score would be 9-6 in favour of the Marauders.
In McMaster's second game of the day, they took on OUA rivals, the Western Mustangs. Allowing only one goal in the first, McMaster would score three of their own coming from Nick Jeffrey, Richard Saunders and Park. In hte second teams would score two a piece with Saunders connecting again for McMaster as well as Jeffrey. The Mustangs would go scoreless the rest of the game with Saunders earning his third goal of the match and Carlson netting a goal of his own.
Next up for the Marauders was water polo powerhouse Carleton. In the first the Ravens edged the Marauders by just one goal. Goals came from Park and Jeffrey for McMaster. In the seocnd, the Ravens pulled away scoring five goals and holding the Marauders to none for a 8-2 lead. In the third, McMaster scored three more, two coming from Park and another from R, McHaffie, but wouldn't be able to shut down the Carleton defence as they scored four more. In the fourth, the Marauders scored two more, one from Park and another from Tong, but it wouldn't be enough to overtake the Ravens. The final score was 13-7.
The next day, the Marauders went 1-1, beating the Jets club team 8-7 but losing to the hosting Varsity Blues 14-7.
