HAMILTON, ON - The McMaster Marauder men's soccer team improved to 1-0-1 on the season with goals from Johnny Krilis (Mississauga, ON) and Andrew Habermehl (Elmira, ON) in a 2-1 defeat of the Ryerson Rams on Sunday afternoon.
Krilis opened the scoring for McMaster with a run down the left hand side, striking the ball into the top right corner. In the second half, Habermehl put away the eventual game winner with a chip shot over Ryerson keeper Daniel Brovedani. The Marauder's held on to the comfortable lead until the 81 st minute.
The Rams were unable to defend Krilis who played an excellent game for the Marauders. However, Krilis was unable to convert on two more scoring chances late in the game. The first, a free kick from just outside the box sailed just wide of the right post. The missed opportunity came shortly after Krilis headed a cross just over the net from three metres out.
Head Coach Tom Casey was pleased with his team's play but noted, "they played shaky in the last 15 minutes, it should not have been that close."
Rick Maggilio (Niagara Falls, ON) was steady in goal for the Marauders making some excellent stops particularly, in the second half. The shutout was the second of this young season.
The Marauder's take to the pitch again Sunday, September 18 at the University of Guelph. The match kicks off at 3p.m.
