The awards continued to come the way of Dany Demyanenko this past week, and he produced a display at the CIS Championship tournament to warrant his accolades. The Marauders' prized rookie middle was named the CIS Rookie of the Year on Wednesday, and included in the ranks of the CIS Second Team All-Canadians and the CIS All-Rookie Team.
Demyanenko responded on court, turning in three strong performances as the Marauders advanced to the national title match before losing in four sets to the host Laval Rouge et Or. He scored 12.5 points in McMaster's quarterfinal win over UNB, with six kills, three aces and five total blocks, and followed that with 12 points in Saturday's semifinal against Western that included 10 kills and four block assists.
The middle saved his best for last, amassing 19.5 points on 16-26 hitting against the Rouge et Or in a losing effort, and contributed six total blocks. Demayanenko was named as McMaster's Player of the Game as a result, and was included among the tournament All-Stars.
