Competing at her first CIS wrestling championship, Nicole Roach reached the medal podium, taking the bronze medal in the women’s 59-KG weight class. The first-year native of Orillia stepped up her performance at the nationals, after winning bronze at the OUA Championships two weeks ago.
Roach won two of her three preliminary matches to advance to the bronze medal match, including a win over OUA champion Laurel Knowles from Lakehead in the final match of the opening day.
In the bronze medal match, she defeated Calgary’s Jesse Seida 3-0 in the final round to grab the medal.
Roach’s CIS bronze was the top OUA performance in the 59-KG class, in front of Lakehead’s Knowles and Western’s Andrea Wakelin, who had finished ahead of her at the provincial finals.
