Despite a disappointing weekend on the results front, which saw the Marauders defeated twice to conclude the fall portion of their calendar, Buttenham exploded for one of the most dominant individual performances in recent memory on Friday.
The fifth-year forward racked up 32 points and 10 rebounds for a double double, and hit 14 of 25 attempts from the field in the process, to record the highest-scoring game from a Marauder this season. The last single-game performance to match her offensive output came in the 2019 U SPORTS Championship tournament, when Sarah Gates similarly dropped 32 against the Concordia Stingers in a national quarterfinal.
Her effort was the highest single-game output for a Marauder in conference play since Hilary Hanaka scored 34 against Laurentian in November 2017.
Buttenham was also Mac’s co-leader in assists on the night with seven, finishing just three assists shy of the incredibly rare triple double. Despite her best efforts, the Marauders dropped an 82-80 decision to the Brock Badgers which came down to the final possession of the game.
The forward contributed 13 points and nine rebounds the next night in Toronto, as McMaster fell 76-66 to the Varsity Blues.
