Completing his standout first season as a Marauder in style, the Mississauga, Ont. native saved his best for last at the 3000m distance, winning silver at the U SPORTS Championships in Windsor.
Raez Villanueva entered the year-end competition as the seventh-seeded runner at the distance, with a seed time of 8:15.76 achieved at Boston University’s Valentine Invitational in February. While he didn’t threaten that mark at Windsor, the Marauder did cross the line second, behind only Angus Rawling of St. Francis Xavier.
The national medal on the track follows a cross country season in which the Biology major notched an eighth-placed finish at the U SPORTS Championship meet and was named as a Second Team All-Canadian.
March 12 marked Raez Villanueva’s fourth honour as McMaster’s male athlete of the week in 2017-18.
