The fifth-year computer engineering major capped a decorated OUA career with his third all-star nod this past weekend, leading McMaster to team silver at the conference championship at Ryerson.
Kao, who was named as the OUA’s Most Valuable Player in 2015, and an all-star in 2016, compiled a 6-5 record across the three day event, playing both men’s and mixed doubles to great effect.
He and Sashini Senarath combined for a crucial win which kept McMaster alive in their quarterfinal match against Waterloo, and bounced back from a mixed doubles loss in the team’s semifinal against Western to post a men’s doubles win alongside Clement Chow.
While the Marauders ultimately fell short of gold, losing out 6-2 to the Toronto Varsity Blues, Kao contributed one of McMaster’s two points in the championship, defeating Toronto’s Andre Chan and Jim Zeng alongside Desmond Chan 21-12, 21-17.
