Although his team narrowly missed the podium at the U SPORTS Championships, dashing their own high hopes, Sergio Raez Villanueva capped an exceptional first season as a Marauder with a performance in Victoria that earned him Second Team All-Canadian status.

The second-year Biology student was Mac’s low post at the national championship event, finishing the 10km course in 31:43.42 to score eighth overall and miss the First Team cut by just a single spot. His performance led a tight-knit Marauders pack, in which all five scorers finished inside the top 25.

But McMaster agonizingly missed team bronze by just three points, with their total of 90 just behind the 87 posted by Laval.

Monday marked Raez Villanueva's second Athlete of the Week nod of 2017.
