While it was not the colour that Ahmed Shamiya wanted, his silver medal at the U SPORTS Championships in Winnipeg remained the top result for the Marauders, who successfully defended their national silver for a second time Saturday.
Â
Shamiya, who won silver at home over the course of the OUA Championships earlier in February, began his journey at 76kg brightly with a pair of wins over Calgary’s John Fayed and Regina’s Brett Kryger.
Â
Unfortunately, his latest battle with rival Tyler Rowe ended similarly to that of weeks ago, with the Badger getting the best of Shamiya to do the double at his expense.
Â
Despite his own disappointment, Shamiya’s silver was instrumental in pushing the Mac men to a total of 37 rankings points, edging the Alberta Golden Bears by just two for the group silver.
