Phulka starred at home this past weekend, as the Marauders played host to the 2017 OUA Wrestling Championships at the Therese Quigley Sport Hall.
 
Having moved up to 90kg this season, Phulka advanced to Saturday’s final comfortably, before out-dueling the defending champion at the weight, Brock’s Clayton Pye, to win gold.
 
His was McMaster’s only gold medal of the event, and helped the Marauders men to silver as a team.
 
Phulka was also recognized with the Men’s Community Service Award at the conclusion of the championships, for his work off the mat.
