Successfully rematching the CIS final he won a year ago, Ahmed Shamiya ran the gauntlet Saturday to nab a gold medal at the Brock Open in St. Catharines.
Â
The senior wrestler, who was competing in the 76kg weight class against a stacked field at the home of the defending national champions, bested the Badgers Tyler Rowe in a semifinal en route to one of Mac’s three golds on the day. Shamiya and Rowe have met in each of the past two national finals, with the Marauder coming out on top both times.
Â
He defeated another Badger, Ty Bridgewater, in the divisional final.
Â
Overall, Shamiya’s gold helped McMaster’s men to a total of 42 points, just one back of the hosts for the team title.
