Completing her 18th season as a head coach with the Marauders in 2020-21, Schnurr enjoyed her most successful campaign to date on the trails in 2018, where the Marauders men captured the H.R. Little Trophy as the OUA champions and won U SPORTS bronze. She was named as the OUA Coach of the Year for the first time, and coached Max Turek to just the third individual title in the history of McMaster's men's cross country program.
Coaching alongside husband Pete Self throughout her tenure at McMaster, Schnurr first moved to the sidelines in 1992.
A decorated varsity athlete at McMaster, Schnurr won 28 OWIAA medals -- 18 of them gold -- and set CIAU records at both 1000m and 1500m on the track, the latter of which remains intact. She was a five-time CIAU All-Canadian, and named as the top performer at the 1988 CIAU Championships. She won the Therese Quigley Award as the Marauders Female Athlete of the Year in each of the first four seasons of its existence between 1985 and 1988 and was inducted into the McMaster Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998.
Schnurr was a two-time Olympian, and competed in the 1500m event at both the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympic Games. She won silver at that same distance at the Commonwealth Games in 1994.
Since returning to McMaster as a full-time coach in 2010, Schnurr has guided Marauders to 30 medals at OUA and U SPORTS/CIS Championships, including two individual golds, and led McMaster to one team title.
