For the first time of the season, the McMaster Marauders faced off against the York Lions. The squads' first quarter surge put them in the lead and held it the entire match, while dropping the York Lions.
Coming back from the month-long season break, the Marauders looked ready to be back in Burridge.
While it's a new year, it's the same
Jenna Button with 17 points in the first quarter alone. The squad, with Button, soared more than doubling the Lions, 33-15. York wasn't happy with the way of the first and brought on a 7-point run for the second. Seeing that to the end, the Marauders broke the herd and continued to outplay the Lions in the first half. Played from downtown, the Marauders hit 7 threes in the first two quarters.
The third quarter was the slowest of the game for the Marauders. A "New Kids" line change of Frankovic, Guerrero, Denkers and Urosoveic anchored the court from off the bench. York tried to capitalize and found leeway, breaking the lead to the shortest of the night with just a 6-point deficit. Bourget posted a jumper, which was the first bucket for the Marauders in the third, with 4 minutes to go. York outdid the home squad scoring 20-9.
In the last quarter, the Marauders regrouped finding a way to guarding home court. The game closed 82-74.
Delaney Bourget had a killer game, that the stats are unable to fully translate. Demonstrating strength on offensive and defence, the Sudbury native hit 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
On the high of tonight's success, the Marauders take the road to Kingston to play the Queens Gaels.
