HAMILTON, Ont. - It was a night to remember for
Sarah Gates (Newmarket, Ont.) and the Marauders women's basketball program on Friday night at Burridge as the fifth-year senior was honoured as McMaster's all-time leading scorer prior to tip-off.
Facing one of the top teams in the OUA - the Waterloo Warriors - the Marauders showcased their skill, picking up an 81-61 victory and, in doing so, clinched top spot in the OUA Central standings. With its current 16-5 record, McMaster will now get a bye in the opening round of the OUA playoffs and will host an OUA quarterfinal contest on Saturday February 25.
In the game, McMaster and Waterloo battled it out in the first quarter with the Marauders leading 21-18 after the opening ten. The hosts extended the lead in the second and would not look back en route to an 81-61 victory over the visiting Warriors.
Gates led all players with an astounding 41 point performance. She also added five rebounds and two steals.
Cassie Joli-Coeur (Johnstown, Ont. put up 13 while
Jenna Button (Dundas, Ont.) had 12.
Next Up
McMaster will now return to Burridge on Saturday night for one final regular season contest. The Marauders and Varsity Blues will tip-off at 6pm.
