The McMaster Marauders football team got back in the win column today in a big way, dropping the York Lions on the road 48-0 at York Lions Stadium in Toronto.
Â
It was a day of career records and career bests for the Marauders.
Adam Preocanin rewrote the record books for the Marauders today, breaking the McMaster career field goal record – previously held by Tyler Crapigna (84) – after converting 4-of-6 on the day. He now has 88 career field goals made, ranking him fifth all-time in U SPORTS.
Â
Fourth-year receiver
Liam Putt had himself a game, catching a career-high three touchdowns for 70-yards on the day. First-year quarterback,
Keagan Hall, recorded his first career touchdown pass, Putt's third on the day, etching his name in the Marauders record books.
Â
Andreas Dueck found his form in week six, completing 25 of his 32 pass attempts, for 252-yards and three touchdown passes on the day.
Â
On the defensive end, Nate Edwards led the way yet again with one sack, and five tackles – three solo, and two assisted – while
Chinedu Ezeonwurie was active and kept pressuring the Lions offence, recording a sack and three total tackles on the day.
Â
The Marauders opened five minutes into the first quarter of play. After the Lions defence picked off a Dueck pass,
Tayo Smith forced a fumble after tackling Lions quarterback Noah Craney –
Jacob Mason was the first to pounce on the ball to switch possession for the Marauders.
Â
On the ensuing play, Dueck made no mistake finding
Justice Allin who made his way into the endzone for the second time this season.
Â
Â
Towards the end of the first quarter, Preocanin hit his first field goal of the day – 40-yards deep – breaking the six-year old record. He came into the game tied with Crapigna with 84 career field goals.
Â
Â
The Marauders ended the first-half up 17-0 following an additional pair of field goals from Preocanin and a rouge.
Â
Once the second-half hit,
Liam Putt put on a show for the visiting team. Connecting on back-to-back touchdowns, the York Lions defence struggled to contain the wide receiver.
Â
Not to be outdone, on two occasions the Marauders defence made great efforts to continue to hold the Lions to a scoreless game.
Nana Yaw Serbeh showed his quick ability, diving for a deflected pass for the interception.
Â
Â
A couple plays later, Ezeonwurie secured the fumble for the Marauders after Edwards tackled Lions third quarterback, David Maecker.
Â
On the final offensive play for the Marauders, first-year receiver
Jackson Cooling put on the jets, returning a punt for 62-yards all the way to the endzone capping off a dominant 48-0 victory for the Marauders.
Â
Â
The Marauders recorded a much needed win as they continue to make their push for a playoff spot – their record now improves to 2-3, while the Lions fall to 0-5. They currently sit in a three-way tie in the OUA West division with Waterloo Warriors and Windsor Lancers.
