McMaster's OUA badminton season came to an end this past weekend with the squad in maroon finishing in fifth place.
Sommer Chou lead the way, winning eight of her nine matches over the weekend but it was
Talia Ng who went 7-0 over the weekend. Ng's performance, which saw here drop just one of 15 sets over the Championships, earned her a nod as an OUA All-Star.
The Marauders went 2-1 in pool play, sweeping Ontario Tech 10-0, defeating the Guelph Gryphons 9-1 but falling to Western 7-3. The second-place finish in Pool C moved McMaster to the Championship bracket.
In the first round of the brackets, the Marauders faced Ottawa. Ng and Chou picked up victories in women's singles, and paired up to win a doubles match. Those victories turned out to be the only ones Mac would get against Ottawa, leaving the squad to battle for fifth place.
It would take McMaster just eight matches to pick up the victory over the Ryerson Rams in the placement match.Â
Mark Dasios and
Jared So gained victories in the men's singles events along with Ng winning the only women's singles match.Â
Kingsley Wu went on to win in both the mixed and men's doubles, teaming with Chou and
Victor Chan.
The other victory that helped the Marauders to fifth place was
Kartikay Tyagi and
Michelle Mei winning the second mixed doubles match.
This is the eighth consecutive year that McMaster has finished is fifth place of better at the OUA Championships.
