Women's Soccer: McMaster Holds on for Fourth Straight Win, Beats Brock 2-1

The Marauders retained their hold on the third seed in the OUA West

The Marauders recent run of hot form continued Saturday, as McMaster wrapped up the season series against the Brock Badgers on a winning note.

A pair of first half goals from Stephanie Roberts and Emma Czernuszka were enough to see the Marauders past the Badgers 2-1 in St. Catharines, as Mac picked up its fourth straight victory.

With the result, the Marauders improved to 6-3-3 on the season and retained their hold on the third spot in the OUA West standings, as they currently edge the fourth-placed York Lions 21-20 on points, although the Lions hold a game in hand.

Roberts continued her torrid scoring pace in 2018, bagging her ninth goal of the campaign on the afternoon, which seats her fourth in the conference and just two behind the OUA-leading Jenny Wolever of Queen's.

Her finish in the 26th minute polished off an assist from Amy Froome and gave the Marauders the lead, one which Czernuszka would extend on the stroke of the halftime whistle.

The midfielder found the back of the net in the 44th minute, netting her second of the season and giving McMaster a 2-0 advantage at the break.

That second marker proved vital, as the Badgers made a game of it by finding a goal of their own in the 66th minute through Samantha Bayer.

But that was as close as the hosts would come Saturday, as McMaster saw out another important victory with just four matches left to be played before the onset of the OUA playoffs.

NEXT UP: The Marauders journey to Waterloo on Sunday to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks at 1:00 p.m. McMaster won the teams' other meeting on the opening day of the 2018 season at Ron Joyce Stadium, prevailing 4-1.
