Raez Villanueva and Arsovic Named Pita Pit Athletes of the Week

Monday marked Sergio Raez Villanueva's third honour as McMaster Athlete of the Week in 2017-18.

The second-year Marauder delivered McMaster's lone gold medal at Windsor's Can-Am meet on Saturday, January 13, winning the 1500m event in a time of 3:53.49. Topping a field that included 2017 OUA cross country champion Connor Black of Guelph, Raez Villanueva achieved the fastest current time in Canada at the distance, and the fourth-fastest in McMaster history.

January 15 marked Raez Villanueva's third honour as Pita Pit Athlete of the Week in 2017-18.

McMaster's fifth-year senior led the team offensively on consecutive nights, as the Marauders re-opened the OUA season with wins over Brock and Windsor on January 12 and 13. She totaled 20 kills over the course of the weekend, leading the match on both nights.

Arsovic converted nine of 20 attempts versus just a single error against the Badgers, while adding three aces and two solo blocks for 14 points, and followed with 11 kills, one block and one ace the following night for a match high 13 points.
