FORBES AND SVOBODA NAMED PITA PIT ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Taylor Forbes

Forbes continued his stellar return to the trails in 2014 with a third-placed finish at the Queen's Open on Saturday. The third-year Marauder was second among varsity competitors, scoring first for McMaster and pacing the men to their third meet victory of the season at the OUA Championship tuneup. His contribution helped the CIS no. 2-ranked Marauders to overcome the absence of three reliable scorers in Connor Darlington, Blair Morgan and Paul Rochus.

Sara Svoboda took her first step into the postseason as a Marauder on Friday, and showed no sign of slowing her regular season pace. The first-year crossed the end line for two tries and made four converts for a game-high 18 points in McMaster's 70-12 OUA quarterfinal thumping of the Trent Excalibur. In their rookie season, both she and sister Katie have assumed central roles for the CIS no. 2-ranked Marauders, and nowhere was that more evident than in Friday's win.
