KATIE ANDERSON TO TAKE A RUN AT THE 2012 OLYMPICS

After a sensational varsity season that saw her named McMaster’s Female Athlete of the Year, Katie Anderson has qualified to run at the Canadian Olympic Track & Field Trials being held in Calgary June 27-30, 2012.

Anderson will compete in her best race, the 1500-metres, after setting a personal best time of 4:24.09 on June 22nd, coming in under the Olympic qualifying standard of 4:27.

A member of McMaster’s cross country and track teams, Anderson was the 2012 OUA Champion at 1500m, and captured the CIS silver medal at the same distance. She also won CIS silver at 1000-metres.

Hailing from Exeter, Ontario, Anderson is in Calgary for the Olympic Trials with McMaster Track Coach Paula Schnurr. The 1500m heats are scheduled for Thursday, June 28th with the final set for Friday, June 29th. Schnurr says the goal for Anderson is to reach the final on Friday, which would be a terrific accomplishment for her first time trying to qualify for the Olympics.
