CARSON BREAKS 28-YEAR OLD SCHOOL RECORD IN 3000M AT MCGILL OPEN

Montreal, Que. - The McMaster track team traveled to McGill University to compete at the McGill Open in preparing for the OUA Championships this upcoming weekend.

While there, newcomer Lindsay Carson broke the McMaster record in the 3000m running it in 9:40.81 to take the silver medal. The previous record was set by Muffy McLeod in 1984. Carson is now ranked third in the CIS in the 3000m and first in the 1500m. 

Rookie Chelsea MacKinnon was also successful over the weekend. She won gold in the 1000m with a time of 2:53.00 to best the field by over four seconds. Teammates Sarah Wilson and Laura Morrison finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in that same race. 

Third-year Jessica Tat also took home some hardware for the Marauders. winning bronze in the 600m run with a personal best of 1:35.86.

Marauder Mike Percival earned a bronze in the 1000m. The veteran set a personal best in the race with a time of 2:35.12.

Thirteen men and thirteen women have qualified for the OUA Championships at York University this upcoming weekend.
