The Marauder Nickname is credited to Bill Cline. On Friday November 26, 1948, The Silhouette, the McMaster student newspaper wrote:"Bill Cline wishes to announce a contest to name Mac men's basketball team. The best name submitted so far is the Maroon Marauders (submitted by Bill Cline). The prize?? We hope an inspired team.Entries can be submitted care of this department".
On Friday December 3, 1948, The Silhouette reported that the "Mac Marauders lose opener to Central Y"
The MARMOR (McMaster Yearbook) for 1949 include a photo of the McMaster "Maroon Marauders" coached by Ivor Wynne and Les Prince.
