One of the pioneers of the athletic therapy operation of McMaster Athletics, Robert Holmes spent over 20 years as the Head Athletic Trainer of Marauder sports teams.   Responsible for injury prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, Holmes introduced several initiatives to enhance the athlete experience available at the Sports Injury Clinic. He formalized connections with medical practitioners in the Hamilton area to improve access for athletes needing specialized care of their injuries. He also promoted the student trainer system, currently still in place, putting qualified students in position to monitor injuries incurred during games and practices and supervise the athlete’s rehabilitation.  Always an advocate of athlete wellbeing, Holmes was dedicated to making sure McMaster student-athletes could compete at their best.
