An early leader in women's athletics at McMaster, Reta Smith was the first in a long line of outstanding young women honoured with the Edna Guest Trophy. She received the initial Guest Trophy in 1931, as an outstanding hockey player for the Maroon and Grey. She was also very active in intramural sports and was president of the Women's Athletic Society during the same year she won the Guest Trophy.
