Competing all five years with the Maroon, Groenveld was an integral member of the Marauders volleyball team at a pivotal point for the program. His greatest season came during the 2007-08 campaign where he not only was named OUA Player of the Year, as well as a first team all-Canadian, but he also scored the championship clinching point for his first OUA banner. The following year, the Marauders repeated as OUA champions, and Groenveld led McMaster to their highest finish in program history at that point – a fourth place showing at the 2009 CIS National Championship.
 
Groenveld ended his career as a two-time OUA champion, two-time OUA first team all-star, OUA Player of the Year, CIS first team all-Canadian, CIS Championship Tournament all-star, and the 2007-08 Ivor Wynne Male Athlete of the Year.
