Mike had a banner year of sprinting in 1959, placing first in the 220 yards at the OQAA and CIAU Outdoor finals, plus first (CIAU) and second (OQAA) in the 100 yard race. Following those brilliant feats were two golds at the 1961 OQAA finals. He also anchored Mac's 1-mile relay wins at the 1960 and 1961 91st Highlanders meet, and won silver in the 50 yard dash at the 1962 meet. A Professor of Chemistry at Queen's, Mike coached its track team for fifteen seasons.
