Waters ran the mile in four minutes, 50 seconds, in 1912, a record that stood until 1930. He also played rugby, was editor of the McMaster Monthly and received the Governor General's Medal in 1910. He served in World War One and was wounded at Vimy Ridge. Following an academic path, Waters was a professor in the philosophy and psychology department at McMaster for many years. He accepted his Hall of Fame award in 1988 at age 99.
