Elva was a stand out on several varsity teams including archery, golf, basketball and volleyball. She was very active on the Women's Athletic Council, serving as president in 1950-51. It was in that very same year that she was given the Honour M award for her contribution to women's athletics and she was also the 1951 recipient of the Edna Guest Trophy.
