An All-Canadian player, Bill helped McMaster win the inaugural CIAU Hockey title in 1963 and was named the tournament MVP. He coached the Marlins from 1964 to 1980 and was named OUAA and CIAU Coach of the Year in 1979. Mahoney left McMaster to join the National Hockey League where he coached with both Washington and Minnesota.
