Track: Mac Brings Home Eight Medals From Don Wright Team Challenge

Given their success on the trails in the fall, it was no surprise this past weekend that McMaster's long-distance unit excelled on the track at the Don Wright Team Challenge in London. The Marauders won eight medals in distance events at the meet hosted by the Western Mustangs, including three golds courtesy of Kaitlyn Pansegrau, Jeff Tweedle and Connor Darlington.

Pansegrau, who was awarded the Pita Pit Athlete of the Week nod on Monday for her efforts, opened Mac's medal account on Saturday with the top finish in the women's 1000m race, crossing the line in 3:03.38. Her teammate Tweedle followed by clinching gold in the men's edition of the event — the very next race of the meet — crossing the line in 2:27.53, while Marauders Matt Napier Rhys Thomas finished eighth and ninth.

Exceptional team running in the 1500m event saw the Mac group of Chelsea Mackinnon, Maddie Benjamin, Erin Mawhinney and Emily Nowak cross the line consecutively between second and fifth place, adding two more medals to the Marauders tally on the day. Meg Black rounded out a large Mac contingent in that race, finishing eighth.

Another medal came courtesy Patrick Deane in the very next race, winning silver in the men's 1500m event in a time of 4:02.86, with teammate Chris Adams crossing the line three places behind.

Spearheading another healthy Mac contingent in the women's 3000m race, veteran Gabrielle Foran clinched a bronze medal in a time of 10:22.12, with teammates Lauren Locco, Kristen Kuhn, Alison Head and Alannah Kelly finishing sixth, eighth, 10th and 11th respectively.

McMaster completed its assault on the podium in the men's 3000m race, where Darlington claimed the gold with a time of 8:19.01 while teammate Blair Morgan won silver in 8:22.71. Nick Kondrat placed fifth, Taylor Forbes sixth, Derek Van Schepen seventh, Gabe Ghiglione eighth, Jonathan Favero 10th and Christian Macgillivray 11th.
