EARLY RETURNS ON THE TRACK PROMISING FOR MARAUDERS

Three meets into their OUA schedule, the Marauder track teams have seen several athletes break into the national rankings in long-distance categories.

The duo of Jeff Tweedle and Luke Charbonneau are currently ranked fifth and seventh respectively in the CIS at the 1000m distance, having achieved their benchmarks in London and Windsor over the past two weeks. Tweedle's mark of 2:29.38 at the Don Wright Invitational was the second-best time of his career at the distance, while Charbonneau ran a personal best of 2:30.57 at Windsor's Can Am meet despite a stated focus on the 1500m race. He will run his first 1500m race this coming weekend when the Marauders travel to Montreal for the McGill Team Challenge.

Joining the two veterans at the 1000m distance is rookie Matt Napier, who achieved a personal best of 2:34.33 in London and will look to build on that time in Montreal.

By winning the women's 1000m event at the Don Wright Invitational with a time of 2:55.48, veteran Chelsea Mackinnon reached sixth in the CIS rankings at the distance.

Taylor Forbes also finds himself in the top 10 in the CIS after posting a personal best of 3:54.61 in the 1500m event at the season-opening Windsor Can Am to place ninth. He plans to participate in both the 1500m and 3000m events at McGill this weekend, and will look to build on his 3000m personal best of 8:26.82.

McMaster boasts a strong group at 3000m, as Forbes is joined by the OUA's 10th and 11th-ranked runners Nick Kondrat and Derek Van Schepen, while brother Austen Forbes and Blair Morgan will compete in their first races at the distance this weekend in Montreal with hopes of entering the rankings.

The McGill Team Challenge will get underway on Friday, January 23 and conclude the following day.
