The McMaster Cross Country teams crossed the border on Saturday, to compete at the Loyola University Lakefront invitational meet in Chicago. The Mac women continued their strong start to the season by taking the women’s team title, while the Marauder men finished in sixth place in team standings.
The McMaster team got fantastic performances from Victoria Coates, who finished second in the 5K event in 17 minutes and 30 seconds, and rookie Madeline McDonald, who came in 7
th in 17:44. Other Mac results that counted toward the top team finish were: Jillian Wyman (15
th), Stephanie MacNeill (37
th) and Chelsea MacKinnon (44
th).
The win by the McMaster women’s team is the first time a Canadian school has finished first in the 40-year history of the Loyola Lakefront event.

For the Marauder men, Lionel Sanders was the top finisher in the 8K event in a time of 25 minutes even. It’s the second consecutive week that Sanders has set the pace for the Marauders, and he looks in fine form after sitting out last season as a transfer student from Windsor. Also looking strong in his first university race was McMaster’s Connor Darlington, who came in 14
th in a time of 25:11. More solid Marauder results came from Taylor Forbes (39
th) and Blair Morgan (48
th).
