With images of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games still fresh in minds everywhere, McMaster Athletics & Recreation will keep the Olympic spirit alive at the 2012 McMaster Celebration of Sport event on October 12, 2012.

As part of the University’s Homecoming Weekend, McMaster Athletics has invited all of the Maroon participants in the London Olympics to return to campus and be part of the festivities.  Having McMaster’s Olympians in attendance can only help to inspire the student-athletes of today, as they strive to reach their potential.

Confirmed to appear as the keynote speaker for the Celebration is Olympian Adam Van Koeverden, who raced to a silver medal in the men’s kayak K-1 1000M event at the London Games. The Oakville native and 2007 McMaster graduate also won Gold and Bronze medals at the 2004 Games in Athens, and brought home a Silver medal from Beijing in 2008.

Along with celebrating the University’s Homecoming, the Celebration of Sport event will also see the latest class of Marauder alumni standouts inducted into the McMaster Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame induction committee has announced five inductees in the Class of 2012: Sarah Cameron (basketball), Ryan Janzen (football), Joanne Malar (swimming), Peter Preocanin (volleyball) and Tom Casey (Coach-men's soccer)

Tickets for the Celebration of Sport event are $50 and dress for the evening is business casual.
